AP STUDIO ART
The following twenty-four pieces belong to my AP studio art portfolio that were started July 2016 and completed in May 2017.
BREADTH
Various Media. May 2017.
Below is a collection of the projects that make up my breadth section in my AP studio art portfolio. With these pieces I really explored different mediums in order to find what I was most comfortable with. Some of these mediums included: acrylic paint, watercolors, graphite, colored pencil, etc. Altogether these pieces took around four months to complete.

CONCENTRATION
Colored Pencil. 2017.
These pieces here are a collection of the projects that made up my concentration section of my AP studio art portfolio. They are loosely based on a story from the Philippines in which a lazy girl is turned into a pineapple because her mom wishes that she have many eyes in order to be more observant and productive since her daughter can never find what she's looking for when it comes to chores. I can relate to this relationship since my mom often interprets me as relaxing, as me being lazy. Essentially, these pieces are about how my lack of self confidence leads to a lack of self-motivation which is mistaken as laziness. My pieces start out with me relaxing in my messy room. My mom comes and threatens to toss everything if I don’t clean it up. At first I’m angry with myself for letting it get this way, and how if I’m seen as lazy, then I’ll act lazy. After thinking, I decide I have to take the initiative and clean the mess myself to prove that I’m not what people think I am. By throwing out this baggage weighing me down I show that I’m ready to move on. In all of my pieces, pineapples can be seen. They represent how my insecurities linger around me and I can’t seem to escape them, until the end where I end up wearing the pineapple on my sweater, taking control of the negative thoughts. My toys represent how I’m holding on to the past, which adds to the lack of my self-confidence. Packing them up means I’m “growing up” and pulling myself together. For the background of most images I use graphite to color them while using colored pencils for the rest. The colored items end up popping, and the more that is colored in the picture, the more overwhelming, which reflects my feelings. It also shows how I’m disconnected with this gray, outside world because I’m so focused on my own. In the final piece where I gain control, everything’s in color, showing that I’m more connected with the world and am ready to move on.
